Welcome to my client’s formal dining room, all decked out for Thanksgiving Dinner with the family! As soon as I saw this room, I knew I wanted to incorporate as many autumnal colors as possible that would pop against the gorgeous red walls. With a traditional sense of style, I wanted to compliment all of the existing decor with equally traditional and homey accents, creating a cozy and colorful space for my client’s family to enjoy a nice, long, relaxed Thanksgiving dinner and dessert together.

This metal basket was sitting on top of the china cabinet collecting dust. I took it home and created this centerpiece as a surprise for my client. She was absolutely floored that something collecting dust could become such an eye-catching piece. I was thrilled, because this is really what I’m all about: Taking a forgotten or misplaced item and bringing it back to life. I lined the basket with burlap fabric, and used a floral foam block to support the arrangement, so the entire thing can be removed for the next season’s arrangement.

My client didn’t have a sideboard to work with, so I brought in a folding table and layered two tablecloths over it, creating space for pies, pies, and more pies. The tray holds some decorative items that can easily be picked up and moved out of the way for the desserts, and there are paper plates and napkins to serve. Sometimes, at this point of the Thanksgiving feast, the last thing you want to do is create more work for yourself, so I suggested going with Grandmother’s china for dinner, and disposable items for dessert.

This is the powder room “add on” that I created. The arrangement is something a little more whimsical for the bathroom…Those are pumpkin and cherry pie slice wooden flags in the jar! So fun. then we have a nice fall scented candle, some guest napkins, liquid soap, bar soap, and a little dish of pinecones and acorns.

The kitchen add on is this beautiful cornucopia. Again, my client had an old metal cornucopia with a nice arrangement in it…one that had seen better days. So I created a new arrangement in the metal cornucopia, and put together a special tray to really make it the center of attention in the kitchen. She could easily move the arrangement anywhere in her home for the Thanksgiving Holiday, if she’d like. She was so happy with the results!

The third add-on was the entryway. I placed a cute chalkboard sign in the foyer. Then I placed new doormats (I really like the layered look), some LED solar charged lanterns, and a beautiful wreath for the front door. Nothing says, “Welcome home for the Holidays” like a fresh and beautiful doorstep.

I am really looking forward to hearing how my client’s family liked the fresh new look for their Thanksgiving gathering. I have a feeling it’s going to be one to remember!
